The Middle School

Welcome from the Head of Middle School

Dear Students,

You have made a very wise decision to join Sha Tin College. I am sure that you are quite nervous about the change to secondary school but I would like to reassure you that the transition will be one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences in your life. We will build on the skills that you have learned in primary school and hopefully encourage every student to become an inquisitive and responsible life-long learner.

I like to think that joining Sha Tin College is like joining a large extended family. All staff and students encourage each other to achieve their very best. It does not matter which House Group you are placed in, (although as a member of Armstrong, I think Armstrong is the best!) because you will be supported by an excellent team of Tutors, a Deputy Head of Year and Head of Year. Every one of these people will be more than happy to help you if you have any uncertainties about secondary school life.

Our academic results are outstanding but there is much more to Sha Tin College. I expect all Year 7 students to become fully involved in the numerous opportunities on offer at our school. It is wonderful for me to speak to a student at the end of Year 7 and hear the excitement in their voice as they talk about their involvement in the rugby team, school orchestra and how they helped out at charity events throughout the year while also maintaining excellent grades. Dedicated involvement in co-curricular activities should start immediately in Year 7.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the next few months. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email at bt@shatincollege.edu.hk.

Regards,

Bryan Turner
Head of Middle School

Welcome From the Vice Principal

Consider this

You are in a strange place. There are older, unfamiliar people around who look like they know what to do and where they are going. Things appear to be quite purposeful and busy. You feel curious and a little excited because the atmosphere in this place is friendly. You know this because of the smiling faces, the welcome signs and the fact that people are talking and laughing.Does this sound like it could be our school? You’re right! What marvellous powers of deduction you possess! You are at Sha Tin College. It is great you have identified the warm, generous, helpful spirit of the people because we are committed to building strong, positive relationships. We want to build one with you that is based on our mutual values and beliefs. We want this relationship with you to be about trust, respect and us working together so you achieve your very best in every area of school life. We are very happy you will be part of our school community. The journey that you are embarking on in secondary school will be one of the most creative, adventurous, memorable and important of your entire life. During the next six years you will have the chance to experience more than you can actually imagine right at this moment. But, if you close your eyes and make a promise to yourself that on this journey you will:

  • Never lose the passion for learning you have right now – we are all learners together
  • Always remember that reading equals knowledge plus fun
  • Listen carefully – we can discover something from active listening; it’s a valuable skill
  • Never be afraid to ask questions
  • Admit to mistakes – we all make these and this is one of the essential ways to grow into a better person
  • Try new things
  • Demonstrate empathy and compassion towards others
  • Aim for balance in everything you do in life

you will make a fantastic success of your time at our College. All the teachers, support staff, parents and other students at one point were Year 7s themselves. They appreciate that the transition from junior school can sometimes feel demanding. A few of them found themselves lost for a while on parts of their journey and had to call for help! Just keep in mind that if you are a thinker, never give up and you aim to make the absolute best of your skills and talents whilst working in cooperation with others, we will always be there to guide, mentor, champion and support you.

Regards,

Mrs Christine Rowlands
Vice Principal
