CAS Programme
An Introduction
Sha Tin College offers a rich and diverse programme of co-curricular activities and all students are encouraged to participate either during the lunch hours or after school. We aim to extend our students’ growth to include all aspects of personal development and we therefore encourage students to be involved in each of the three areas of Creativity, Action and Service. Under the category of Creativity, we aim to challenge students to express themselves through the Arts and other creative activities. Under Action, we aim to challenge students to be physically involved through sports (both competitive and non-competitive), expeditions and other activities which require physical exertion. Under Service, we aim to challenge students to be involved in service to others, including those less fortunate in the local and international communities, as well as their peers in our own school community.
The CAS Programme consists of three areas: the CAS activities, IB CAS and CAS Week.
CAS Activities (for all year groups)
At the start of each Term, students use the College’s online system to sign up for their chosen activities. Expectations for activities are printed at the front of the school diary.
School drama and music productions, sporting events and competitions, outside visits and residential experiences all contribute to the programme. These include concert and theatre trips, fieldwork, school camps and overseas trips. All these activities are refected in the College Yearbook, ‘The Explorer’.
IB CAS (for Y12 and Y13 students only)
More information on IB CAS can be found in the IB Diploma Programme CAS page.
CAS Week (for all year groups) ...more
Each year in October, lessons are suspended for five days and our students have the opportunity to take part in a broad range of activities, camps and expeditions which are not available through the normal curriculum. These are also offered under the CAS umbrella and over time, students are expected to try a variety of experiences in each of the three areas of Creativity, Action and Service.
